Steam Power Today
Steam power accounts for about 80% of the electricity generated in the world today.
Most steam power generators today are one of two types: fossil fuel power plants, or nuclear power plants. Less often seen, but growing in popularity today are concentrated solar power systems (CSP) which use the sun’s heat to heat water into steam.
Steam turbines today can also be used to power large centrifugal pumps, which could be used to pump water through a hydro turbine generator.
